If you are looking to play golf in an area where the air is clean, the fairways are lush, the people are friendly and the scenery is out of this world, then look no further than Vancouver Island.

From the English colonial atmosphere of Royal Victoria Golf Club in the South to the awesome natural splendour of Storey Creek Golf Club in the North, no other area in Canada brings you such a variety of superb golf, and warm West-Coast hospitality.

Where else can you go whale watching in the morning, golf a four-star resort in the afternoon and dine on fresh Pacific Salmon at night? Only Vancouver Island can give you this kind of a vacation. Festooned with over 50 courses, each with its own unique style, Vancouver Island is the golfing destination you have been looking for!

South Island

Stretching from the capital city of Victoria to the hub city of Nanaimo, Southern Vancouver Island has a phenomenal array of golf courses, scenery and activities. You and your friends can spoil yourselves with fantastic golf in the mornings and numerous after-golf activities in the afternoons.

Non-golfers can find plenty to see and do, while you indulge yourself on the South Island's fabulous courses. Stay in one town or move around - southern Vancouver Island has so much to offer both the casual golfer and the die-hard addict.

In Victoria, if you can resist the lure of world class fishing, whale watching, botanical gardens, endless shopping and great museums, there is an unrivalled collection of superb and affordable courses you absolutely must play - each with its own claim to fame. Victoria has courses that have been voted amongst the top fifty courses in all of Canada, courses that have hosted Canadian PGA events and courses that are steeped in the English colonial tradition that so pervades this area of the west coast. From courses that take you through forest groves to courses that take you along the very edge of the Pacific Ocean, Victoria has it all. No matter what kind of round you are looking for, Victoria has your game.

Just 60 km North of Victoria lies the historic Cowichan Valley. Famous for its native carvings and fantastic fishing, this community also boasts an array of fantastic golf courses. Cowichan Golf and Country Club, the valley's oldest course, has been attracting golfers for over half a century. Its variety of tight, tree-lined fairways, wide-open landing areas and occasionally dramatic elevation changes is typical of the kind of golf you can find in the valley. With six courses within twenty minutes of the main town, the Cowichan Valley is a hidden golfing heaven. It is no great surprise that LPGA star Dawn Coe-Jones learned her craft in this neck of the woods.

As you head North to Nanaimo you can visit the Forest Museum and step back in time as you ride a steam locomotive to a logging museum. Also not to be missed are the dozens of building murals in Chemainus that have turned the village into an outdoor museum and one of Vancouver Island's favourite destinations.

A leisurely 50 minutes up the highway will bring you to the port-city of Nanaimo and another group of great courses. With great views of Georgia Strait and the Gulf Islands, Nanaimo Golf Club is the stop of choice for many travellers. Its long narrow fairways and well-defended greens provide a great game for golfers of all levels. Not to be outdone, though, are the many other courses and attractions in the area. One could easily spend a few days in Nanaimo and leave still wanting more.

No matter where you go on Southern Vancouver Island there are great courses and attraction for all interests. Golfers and non-golfers alike will find what they are looking for in this beautiful and historic corner of Canada. This year, come and discover all that Southern Vancouver Island has to offer!

North Island
North of Nanaimo, the true rural beauty of Vancouver Island begins to unfold before you. The forests become thicker, the mountains become higher and wildlife is abundant. One thing that doesn't change, though, is the superb golf. If you are travelling between Nanaimo and Campbell River, there are enough attractions and courses to keep you smiling for days.

Mark this eagle on your scorecard too!
Nestled in the small community of Nanoose is the golfing resort of Fairwinds. This target-style course winds around Canada Geese wetlands and lush evergreen forests. The golf is challenging, but with the fantastic setting, so is concentrating on your game. Spotting the occasional deer, river otter and bald eagle will more than test your ability to stay focused on your score.

Further North, near the seaside town of Parksville, five more courses await to test your mettle and delight your senses. Leading this pack of links is the Morningstar Golf Club. Home to the Canadian Tour's qualifying school for six years, Morningstar is a hidden gem that local golfers are beginning to have to share with others who have played it and have been silly enough to tell their friends about it.

Another forty-five minutes up the Island Highway take you to the Comox Valley and the charming town of Courtenay. Renowned for its friendly people and outdoor recreation, the region is home to what GolfDigest magazine has called "the best public course on Vancouver Island": Crown Isle. From its 35,000 square foot clubhouse and port & cigar room to its manicured greens and pristine fairways, Crown Isle is a first class golfing destination that simply cannot be missed.

A final leisurely fifty-minute drive North takes you to the resort town of Campbell River. Famous for its world-class salmon fishing, where forty-pound salmon are as plentiful as the seaside accommodations, this town can also boast one of the best courses you could ever want to play. Storey Creek, with its forest setting, winding fairways, superb conditions and welcoming charm is what all courses should aspire to be. The tree-lined fairways often make you feel like you and your friends are the only ones on the course; but you would be wrong. The ever-present deer and the bald eagles overhead will keep reminding you that you are in good company on this must-play course.

No matter where you go on Northern Vancouver Island there are great courses and activities for all interests. Friendly people, beautiful scenery and great destinations will give golfers and non-golfers alike all that they are looking for. This year come and discover all that Northern Vancouver Island has to offer!
